hoodrats.

my fantasy basketball team is named the Waukegan Hoodrats because a.) it pays homage to the city i was born in and raised and b.) i've always found deadbeat, ignorant, ghetto-ass NBA players so cheaply entertaining.

i was separately talking to homies joe and nestor today, and during both conversations we started talking about idiots in the NBA who totally blew their chances in the league by breaking the law, being ignorant as shit, smoking weed and sometimes crack on the way to practice, and/or any possible combination of such retarded acts. some were worse than others and with that being said, without further ado i give you... the All Time NBA Deadbeat First Team.

PG - Vernon Maxwell

  • 1995: In a game at Portland on February 6, he ran into the stands to punch a fan, later claiming the fan had heckled him over his wife's miscarriage. The NBA suspended him for 10 games (during which Clyde Drexler was traded for). The suspension was the 2nd longest in NBA history at the time.[4]
  • 1995: Feigning a hamstring injury, he was given a leave of absence after the 1st game of the playoffs. Maxwell later admitted he was frustrated with not playing. The incident was hyped as Maxwell being disgruntled at the team's recent acquisition of Hall-of-Fame guard Clyde Drexler. His actions led to the Rockets ending his tenure with them.[5]
  • 1997: Maxwell was ordered to pay a woman $592,000 for knowingly infecting her with herpes.[6]
  • 2009: Maxwell was arrested in Florida for violation of probation charges related to failing to pay child support.[7]
SG - Isiah Rider

In January 2006, Rider was arrested on kidnapping charges in Marin City, California for taking a female friend in his car against her will.[6] He was charged with domestic violence and ordered to stay out of Marin City. Despite this court order, he was spotted in the area a few weeks later. A Marin County sheriff's deputy confronted him, and while fleeing, Rider hit another car. He was arrested in Alameda County in late 2006, and transferred to the Marin County jail after three judges in that county issued bench warrants against him. In February 2007, Rider pleaded guilty to several charges, including felony cocaine possession and evading an officer. He was sentenced to seven months in jail, 120 hours community service and three years' probation. He will also have to complete a drug education program. At sentencing, Rider admitted to a longstanding problem with marijuana; he'd also begun lacing it with cocaine.[7]

On January 6, 2008, Rider was again arrested, this time in Berkeley, California after a confrontation between a taxi driver and a passenger resulted in the police being called. Rider was found to be the passenger. Subsequently, Rider was arrested on a no-bail warrant for unlawful firearm possession and separate $5,000 warrant for grand theft issued by the Oakland Police Department.[8]

On March 5, 2008 Isaiah was arrested and was held in the Marin County Jail in San Rafael, California. He was charged and pled guilty for possession of a controlled narcotic substance, disobeying a court order, evading a peace officer, providing false information to a peace officer, and driving on a suspended license.

On early Saturday morning, March 29, 2008, Rider was arrested in the Skid Row district of Los Angeles for investigation of auto theft and was released from Los Angeles County jail in the afternoon. He was scheduled to appear in court on April 23, 2008.[9]

SF - Latrell Sprewell

Sprewell's personal life since he last played in the NBA has been plagued with controversy and financial trouble.

On August 30, 2006, Milwaukee police investigated a claim by a 21-year-old female who claimed that she and Sprewell were having consensual sex aboard his 70-foot (21 m) yacht, named "Milwaukee's Best," when Sprewell began to strangle her. Police allegedly observed red marks on the woman's neck. Police investigating the allegation searched Sprewell's yacht for evidence.[5] On September 6, 2006, police indicated that he would not face any charges from the alleged incident. Sprewell is seeking a restraining order against the woman along with "civil remedies" against the accuser.[6]

On January 31, 2007, Sprewell's long term companion sued him for $200 million for ending their relationship agreement. She claims Sprewell agreed to support her and their four children since they were in college.[7]

On August 22, 2007, it was reported by multiple news agencies that Latrell Sprewell's yacht was repossessed by federal marshals after Sprewell failed to maintain payments and insurance for the vessel, for which he reportedly still owed approximately $1.3 million.[8] In addition, while piloted by Sprewell, the yacht was run ashore near Atwater Beach, just north of Milwaukee. Sprewell refused to contract with a professional salvage firm to remove the yacht. The yacht was eventually freed with the help of a local fishing vessel.[9]

Others have speculated that Sprewell may have been quietly considering a comeback but has not received an offer for the level of compensation that he feels would be adequate to bring him out of retirement.[10] Furthermore, on December 19, 2006, Troy Hudson, Kevin Garnett and Trenton Hassell met for dinner after which Hudson was quoted as saying that "(Sprewell) looks like he could play 48 minutes right now," and "he just said he's enjoying his time off," which may suggest he is not retired but taking a break from the NBA.[11] As of 2009, it is not known whether Sprewell will attempt an NBA comeback.

In February 2008, Sprewell's yacht was auctioned for $856,000 after he defaulted on a $1.5 million mortgage,[12] and in May 2008 a Milwaukee area home owned by Sprewell went into foreclosure status.[13] He also owes more than $72,000 in unpaid taxes and his company, Sprewell Motorsports, has not paid credit card bills in months.[14]

PF - Jason Caffey

Caffey was arrested in 2007 for failure to pay child support in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. He went to bankruptcy court seeking protection from creditors, who include eight women with whom he has had ten children.[4][5] A bankruptcy court judge rejected his claims, allowing an Atlanta family court judge to issue a warrant for his arrest for failure to pay $200,000 in back child support and legal fees to the mother of his six year old son.[6]

C - Eddie Curry

On January 12, 2009, Curry was sued by his former chauffeur, David Kuchinsky. Kuchinsky accused Curry of trying to solicit gay sex from him. According to court papers, Curry repeatedly approached Kuchinsky "in the nude," saying, "Look at me, Dave, look" and, "Come and touch it, Dave." The Manhattan federal court suit also stated that Curry made Kuchinsky perform "humiliating tasks outside the scope of his employment, such as cleaning up and removing dirty towels [into which Curry had ejaculated] so that his wife would not see them." Kuchinsky also said Curry called him racial slurs, including "f- - - ing Jew," "cracker," "white slave," "white devil" and "grandmaster of the KKK."

According to the New York Post, Curry, said he was "shocked" at the allegations. "It's false, and everyone who knows me knows I'm not a racist," he said Jan. 12 after the Knicks beat the Hornets 101-95 in New Orleans. "I've never made a comment like that, playing, or nothing. ... That's incredible, man." Kuchinsky worked for Curry from October 2005 through October 2008 and was hired as a 24/7 chauffeur, living in the basement of Curry's Chicago mansion. Shortly after starting work, Kuchinsky "progressively became Curry's 'house-boy,'" the former chauffeur's suit says. Kuchinsky claimed he was owed $68,000 in unpaid wages, as well as $25,000 in expenses for which Curry never repaid him. Those expenses, he said, included cellphones that Curry had him buy as gifts and hotel and club bills. Kuchinsky is also a convicted felon who served a three-year prison sentence for a 1992 burglary in New Jersey. He also got three years' probation in a 2004 resisting-arrest case in New Jersey.[7] Curry's lawyer, Kelly A. Saindon, called Kuchinsky's claims "preposterous" and "extortion".[8]

Curry's ex-girlfriend, Nova Henry, and their nine-month-old daughter Ava were found murdered in Chicago on January 25, 2009. A paternity test proved that Ava was the daughter of Curry and Henry. Their three-year old son Noah was found unharmed at the scene.[9] Two counts of first degree murder were brought against 36-year-old attorney Frederick Goings on February 22, 2009[10]; Goings had served as Henry's attorney in a custody case about Ava against Curry.[11]

  2. yeah i thought about that but what seperates artest from these guys is that he overcame a terrible show of ignorance (the battle royale in detroit some years back) and at least he's managed to stay outta trouble and maintain all-star numbers.
